A man, whose identity is yet to be revealed, died from
injuries after he fell into a canal in an attempt to escape arrest by policemen who allegedly called him a fraudster in the Ayobo area of Ipaja, Lagos State.

It was learned that a friend of the deceased's wife claimed in a series of tweets on X.com that two police officers had been arrested in connection with the incident.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, however, said he was not aware of the allegation when our correspondent contacted him for confirmation on Friday.

It has been revealed that the man was accused of being an internet fraudster by secret police officers because of his tattoos.

The victim, who was unconscious when he was rescued from the canal, was taken to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja GRA, where he was pronounced dead.
