John Dramani Mahama Officially Sworn In as Ghana’s 6th President Under the 4th Republic
In a historic ceremony held at Independence Square in Accra, John Dramani Mahama has been officially sworn in as Ghana’s 6th President under the 4th Republic. This event not only marks a significant chapter in Ghana's democratic journey but also sets a record, as Mahama becomes the first Ghanaian to be sworn in as president on three separate occasions.
John Mahama first ascended to the presidency in July 2012 following the untimely passing of then-President John Evans Atta Mills. Later that year, he secured his first full term after winning the December 2012 general election. Though he lost the presidency in 2016, Mahama remained a key figure in Ghanaian politics, staging a strong comeback in subsequent elections.
His third swearing-in underscores his resilience, political experience, and the trust Ghanaians have placed in his leadership. During his inaugural speech, Mahama reiterated his commitment to national unity, economic revitalization, and strengthening Ghana's democratic institutions. He emphasized the need for collective effort to address challenges such as youth unemployment, healthcare, and infrastructure development.
This milestone not only cements Mahama’s legacy in Ghana's political history but also serves as a testament to the country’s democratic maturity. Ghanaians, both home and abroad, watched with pride as the historic oath was administered, symbolizing hope for a brighter future.
As Mahama begins this new chapter, the nation looks forward to seeing how his leadership will shape Ghana's growth, stability, and international standing. Indeed, history has been made, and Ghana continues to shine as a beacon of democracy in Africa.
