First ever Freshers’ Akwaaba Week Celebration to have an artiste perform in UENR. O'Kenneth performs for the first time in UENR

The recently concluded Akwaaba Week at UENR also called KARIBU WEEK was nothing short of extraordinary, leaving students in awe of the incredible talent and vibrant energy on display. Held from 19th february to 22nd february 2025, the week-long celebration was a perfect space for entertainment and academic achievements.

KARIBU WEEK packed with excitement
The Karubu Week kicked off with a grand opening ceremony on 19th February 2025, featuring a colorful parade of students dressed in traditional attire, representing the rich cultural heritage of Ghana. The atmosphere was electric as the Hunters came in with the morale, followed by inspiring speeches from the Dean of Student and the Students' Representative Council (SRC) President; Danso Andrew.

Each day of the week was dedicated to a specific theme, ensuring there was something for everyone. Highlights included:



Day 1; Akwaaba Summit: The Ashanti Regional Minister; Dr.Frank Amoakohene and Hon.Francis Asenso-Boakye,Memeber of parliament for Bantama Constituency are some Keynote speakers who were invited to speak on the theme 'EMPOWERING MINDS AND NURTURING FUTURES: SETTING THE FOUNDATION FOR SUCCESS.The SRC Vice President of KNUST,Samuel Afful gave memorable speech emphasising on the point 'ALWAYS LOVE TO SERVE'



CANDLE NIGHT: 'We say rest in peace to our lost souls and never forget them'.This moment we set aside to pay tribute to dead students.Students and relatives all wore black clothe as we pay tribute to the dead.



Day 2; Football competition and indoor games : Various football teams played against eachother discovering some special football talents on campus.PlayStation was made avialiable as well as ludu,Uno cards,Jenga and chess.



Basketball Night:The grand finale was the highly anticipated since both teams played in the semi-final last year and got eliminated with a few points margin. The competition was fierce, but the spectators shouting and applause made every participant feel like a winner.
Day 3; Health Screening and Sanitation( Rep your jersey): With health being the priority to the well-being of mankind a free health screening was done and students mobilized themselves to clean certain places of the campus and these were exciting moments as students had discussions and debates on thier favourite football teams.

Experience the ultimate night of music, dancing, and fun, where the energy is electric and the vibes are unstoppable no words could explain party on the block in UENR.
DAY 4, ARTISTE NIGHT
The first time ever an artiste performed during a Freshers’ Akwaaba Week in UENR and this was made possible by the DANSO-BOACHIE LED ADMINISTRATION in collabration with DYOP Media and it was more than just an event; it was a night to celebrate creativity and talent. According to Danso Andrew, the SRC President, “This year’s Aritiste Night is a testament to the incredible talent and unity within our school. It was amazing to see students from all backgrounds come together to celebrate and support one another.” after Naya performed to cheer the crowd. O'Kenneth of Asakaa the headliner of the event performed with Thywill giving students the long lasting memory from thier iconic performance from their most recognized tracks like Agyiewaa,Condenm,Ma drip, Akatafoc and several others.

Lecturers and non-teaching staff also played a crucial role in ensuring the success of the Freshers’ Akwaaba Week. The Dean of Students, the event coordinator, shared, “We are incredibly proud of our students. Their dedication and enthusiasm made this year’s Karibu Week one of the best we’ve ever had.”
As the curtains closed on the final day, students left with unforgettable memories and a renewed sense of pride in their school. The event not only provided a platform for students to express themselves but also strengthened the bonds within the school community.Sunday Thanksgiving Service at the Bank of Ghana Auditorium was organised to climax the Karibu Week celebration.

Plans are already underway for next semesters SRC Week, with promises of even bigger and better events. Until then, the echoes of laughter, applause, and music from this year’s celebration will continue to resonate throughout UENR.
