John Dumelo, the Member of Parliament-elect for Ayawaso West Wuogon, has announced the passing of his father, Engineer John William Kudzo Anato-Dumelo Snr, at the age of 75. The heartbreaking news comes just days before Dumelo's swearing-in ceremony as a newly elected MP.
In a heartfelt Facebook post, Dumelo recounted the poignant details of his last moments with his father. “At age 75, you lived your life well. Yesterday you called me several times that I come see you. We sat on the bed and spoke at length about politics, life, farming and business and of course, we gossiped,” he wrote, reflecting on their cherished conversation.
During their discussion, Dumelo's father offered advice about his impending political role. “We spoke about my swearing-in in 3 days' time, and you told me specifically to serve diligently in government,” Dumelo shared, highlighting his father’s guidance and encouragement.
Shortly after leaving his father’s home, Dumelo received the distressing news that his father was unresponsive. Despite rushing back and taking him to the hospital, Engineer Anato-Dumelo Snr could not be revived.
In a touching tribute, Dumelo expressed profound gratitude to his father for the love, support, and lessons imparted over the years. “Thanks for being my father, thanks for being my best friend, thanks for being my number 1 cheerleader, and thanks for everything you did for me,” he wrote. Dumelo concluded with an emotional farewell: “Say hi to mum for us all….we will miss you. Rest in perfect peace, Engineer John William Kudzo Anato-Dumelo Snr.”
Dumelo’s father’s passing comes at a pivotal moment in his life. Recently elected on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dumelo won the Ayawaso West Wuogon seat by defeating incumbent Lydia Seyram Alhassan of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) with 34,800 votes to her 32,600.
As Dumelo prepares for his swearing-in, his father’s final words will undoubtedly inspire him to honor his legacy through diligent service to his constituents.
