The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has accused the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) of orchestrating a plan to disrupt parliamentary proceedings as part of a broader strategy to rig the 2024 general elections. According to the NPP, a leaked document titled “Winning the 2024 Elections and Beyond: A Comprehensive NDC Strategy” reveals the opposition’s alleged intent to destabilize the government and frustrate key legislative efforts.

At a press conference on October 23, 2024, NPP Communications Director Richard Ahiagbah claimed that the document outlines undemocratic tactics, including leveraging the NDC’s parliamentary numbers to obstruct government business and disrupt revenue-generating measures. Ahiagbah specifically pointed to the NDC’s opposition to the E-Levy and other crucial fiscal policies as part of this strategy.

Ahiagbah stated, “The NDC's document promotes crude, undemocratic, and unpatriotic means of achieving their political objectives, such as sabotaging the government's efforts to raise revenue and foster development." He also praised the NPP caucus in Parliament for maintaining democratic principles and resisting the alleged NDC attempts to incite chaos in the House.

The NPP reiterated its commitment to safeguarding peace and stability in Ghana, asserting that the opposition’s tactics are designed to create confusion and undermine governance in order to sway public opinion ahead of the 2024 elections.
