In a troubling incident at the Jerryfest event held at the Gbawe Astroturf, Akosua Agyeikumwaah Afreh, a female journalist, was detained and interrogated by a police officer and others over allegations of stealing an iPhone 13 Pro Max.

During the interrogation, which reportedly took place in public view, the journalist was subjected to physical assault, including being slapped by the police officer involved. The altercation has sparked widespread outrage, with many condemning the actions of the officer and questioning the handling of the situation.

According to eyewitnesses, the event, which was intended as a joyful celebration for children, was disrupted by the incident. Videos of the confrontation circulated widely on social media, drawing criticism from advocacy groups, journalists, and the general public.

Advocates for press freedom and human rights have called for an investigation into the matter, emphasizing that no one, regardless of their profession, should be subjected to such treatment without due process. Several organizations, including the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), have demanded accountability and swift action against the officer for the alleged misconduct.

In response to the uproar, the police administration has pledged to look into the incident, assuring the public of their commitment to upholding professional standards. Meanwhile, Akosua Agyeikumwaah Afreh has reportedly sought medical attention for the physical and emotional trauma she endured.

This incident raises broader concerns about the use of force by law enforcement and the treatment of individuals accused of crimes. As calls for justice grow louder, it also highlights the need for improved protocols in handling accusations to ensure fairness, dignity, and respect for human rights.
