The Akufo-Addo administration has invested millions of cedis in constructing warehouses nationwide under the One District, One Warehouse (1D1W) initiative, which was part of its promise to enhance local economies and improve agricultural storage. However, many of these facilities are reportedly failing to serve their intended purpose.

In several districts, completed warehouses remain uncommissioned and have not been handed over to local authorities. In some cases, construction has even been abandoned, leaving projects like the nearly finished warehouse in Ho, the Volta regional capital, in a state of disrepair.

Recent visits to the site revealed that the large facility, which is about 90% complete, has begun to deteriorate. It has become overgrown with weeds and is reportedly infested with reptiles. Some areas of the site are even being used to cultivate cassava and maize, indicating a significant lack of maintenance.

Additionally, access to the warehouse is hindered by an impassable road, raising concerns about the overall management and oversight of the 1D1W initiative. A man claiming to be a security guard at the site, who identified himself as a Togolese national, declined to provide further information when questioned about the facility's status. The situation highlights the need for greater accountability and effective management of government projects aimed at bolstering local economies.
