Nandaya Yaw Stanley, the Member of Parliament-elect for Wulensi, has addressed concerns about his decision to run as an independent candidate, clarifying that it does not equate to abandoning his allegiance to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Speaking during an interview on Point of View on Channel One TV on Monday, December 23, Stanley explained that his decision to run independently stemmed from the desires of the constituents in Wulensi. He emphasized that the move was not a rejection of the NDC but rather a reflection of the will of the people he represents.

“Going independent didn’t mean I forfeited the party or anything. No, it was the choice of the people," Stanley said. "They voted me in the primaries, and that was an argument between me and the incumbent. The people called me back to the contest. I had no other choice but to listen to the voice of the people, and that is exactly what I did. They really voted for me.”

Stanley also addressed questions about his political alignment moving forward. He noted that his constituents would play a key role in determining his parliamentary allegiance in the ninth parliament. Whether he aligns with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) or the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will be shaped by their expectations and interests.

This decision highlights Stanley's commitment to prioritizing the needs of his constituents, even if it means navigating complex political dynamics. By running as an independent candidate and winning, he has demonstrated the importance of grassroots support in shaping political outcomes. His position as an independent MP-elect adds an intriguing layer to the political landscape as the ninth parliament prepares to convene.
