The former Minister for Lands and Natural Resources under the Mahama-led administration has sought to cite the Electoral Commission for blame apropos the 9 contentious constituencies in the just concluded parliamentary elections.

Contributing to a discussion on JoyNews’ flagship program, Newsfile, over the weekend, the former Tamale Central MP also accused the EC of causing a constitutional crisis in the manner in which the Commission handled affairs in the 9 constituencies.

What the former Legislator failed to do was to apply objectivity and fairness in his submissions. He circumvented the source of the constitutional crisis he highlighted on the program.

1. Inusah Fuseini failed to mention that it was an announcement by Sammy Gyamfi that began the chaos that ensued.

2. He also refused to tell us that the NDC and its leadership sent their teeming supporters and hired thugs to the various collation centres.

3. Inusah Fuseini’s party members subjected EC’s officials to severe beatings.

4. NDC’s thugs slapped and maimed innocent people who were helping with the collation of results. This, Inusah Fuseini was tight-lipped about.

5. His party’s supporters and leaders got Returning Officers to declare their people as winners under duress.

6. Inusah Fuseini never spoke about the fact that in some instances and constituencies, collation had not been concluded but Returning Officers were forced to declare results in favour of NDC candidates who had not won the elections.

7. His party people threatened Returning Officers and their families so much so that some had to move their families far away from their known residences.

8. NDC’s supporters burnt down EC’s office in Damango and Ayensuano. The former MP didn’t see any reason to state this.

9. The supporters of the National Democratic Congress burnt cars belonging to the EC and other innocent citizens.

10. Inusah Fuseini never said anything about the NPP’s candidate in Obuasi who was threatened to sign that he had lost or he would lose his life, and he had to sign to stay alive.

The above are instances that caused the aggrieved parties to run to the court to have the right things done.

The so-called constitutional crisis arose from the ‘sins’ of Inusah Fuseini and his party members as enumerated above, but not from the Electoral Commission.
