The governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Prestea Huni-Valley Constituency of Western Region, has thrown the party's weight behind Alhaji Ishaque Dauda as the Managing Director (MD) of Prestea Sankofa Gold Limited.

The party, has described as unfounded, claims by few individuals that the MD had been rejected by the Prestea community.

"The Communication Bureau of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Prestea Huni Valley constituency, wish to address the misguided concerns raised by certain individuals claiming to represent residents and miners regarding the appointment of Alhaji Ishaque Dauda as the Managing Director (MD) of Prestea Sankofa Gold Limited"

A statement issued and signed by the NDC Communication Bureau in the Prestea Huni Valley Constituency led by
Kwame Bonful Communication Officer, and Awal Mohammed, Deputy Communication Officer of the party, rallied support behind the MD of the state owned mining company.

According to the party, these allegations are not only baseless but are driven by selfish, greedy motives that seek to undermine the progress of Prestea as a community and the nation at large.

"We stand united in our unequivocal support for this appointment and assert the following facts to set the record straight

Firstly, it is categorically untrue that the so-called miners of Prestea supply “85 to 90 percent of the company’s raw materials.”

Explaining the details, the statement of the party noted "The feed for Prestea Sankofa Gold Limited, a state-owned entity established in 1994 to extract gold primarily from old tailings, is largely sourced from small-scale miners, not the group making these claims.

Furthermore, the company procures additional feed from suppliers outside the jurisdiction of Prestea.

The assertion that these individuals can withhold tailings or disrupt operations by blocking trucks is an empty threat that overestimates their role and underestimates the company’s operational resilience. Such actions, if carried out, would only harm the very community they claim to represent, reminiscent of the economic stagnation experienced during the company’s shutdown from November 2016 to 2019"

Again, the party observed
"Secondly, as a political party in the Prestea Huni Valley constituency, we wholeheartedly welcome and embrace the appointment of Alhaji Ishaque Dauda. In just over one month in office, Mr. Dauda has demonstrated exceptional leadership and tangible results. He has initiated a comprehensive audit into the previous administration of the company—an administration we can all attest was riddled with discrepancies and the appointment of mediocre NPP loyalists instead of competent Ghanaians"

Regarding the role played so far by the MD, the NDC stated "The proactive measures signals a commitment to transparency and efficiency, qualities sorely needed to restore the company’s fortunes. Why, then, are these detractors silent about the restoration of the tailings dam, a significant achievement revamped under Mr. Dauda’s leadership since his inception? Their selective outrage betrays their true intentions"

Aside that, the party emphasized "Thirdly, we the leaders of the NDC in Prestea wish to state without any equivocation that these allegations are the work of faceless entities hiding under the pretext of being residents. These are not genuine representatives of our community but selfish, greedy individuals intimidated by Mr. Dauda’s appointment"

The party added "They fear that his tenure will halt their corrupt involvement in the company’s affairs, which thrived under the previous mismanagement. Prestea Sankofa Gold Limited is a national asset, not a personal fiefdom, and its leadership must prioritize competence over parochial interests. Mr. Dauda’s qualifications and early achievements prove he is the right person to steer this company forward"

The statement further noted "Fourthly, we debunk the baseless assertion that the NDC will suffer politically if an indigene is not appointed as MD. Historical records speak for themselves: the NDC secured resounding victories in the 2008, 2012, and 2016 elections in Prestea, despite the MD's at those times hailing from outside Prestea. Political success is not tied to the birthplace of a company’s leader but to the government’s ability to deliver development, jobs, and prosperity—goals Mr. Dauda is already advancing"

The claim that the previous government’s defeat stemmed from a similar “outside” appointment is a gross oversimplification of electoral dynamics and an attempt to stoke division where none exists, the statement indicated.

To this end, the NDC said "We call on all sympathizers of the NDC, residents of Prestea, and well-meaning Ghanaians to come out in their numbers to render unwavering support to the new MD. His leadership aligns with His Excellency the President’s agenda of resetting the country, of which Prestea is an integral part. Let us not succumb to the machinations of a few selfish individuals who, due to their greed, seek to supplant the collective good for their personal advantage. Prestea Sankofa Gold Limited’s success under Mr. Dauda will create jobs, boost local commerce, and restore the vibrancy of our mining town—outcomes that benefit us all"

The party also appealed to the residents "We urge the residents of Prestea Huni Valley to hail this appointment as one that seeks to better the lot of our town and its citizens. Let us unite behind Alhaji Ishaque Dauda, a leader whose competence and vision will drive progress, not division. Together, we can ensure that Prestea Sankofa Gold Limited thrives as a national asset, not a battleground for narrow interests"

The NDC statement concluded "Lastly, as leadership of the party here in Prestea and with support of our membership, we wish to dissociate ourselves from these so called unknown faceless 13 persons and that the entire constituency of Prestea Huni- Valley is solidly behind the President’s appointment and wish to state that the new MD is welcomed, prestea is his home and he can call on the leadership of the NDC party here in Prestea".
