MR. PRESIDENT-ELECT, STOP PRETENDING YOU DIDN’T KNOW OF THE DETAILS OF GHANA’s DEAL WITH IMF

Dear President-Elect John Mahama!

You cannot eat your cake and still have it. You cannot decide to break your promises to us even before you officially assume the reins of power.

You have signed a social contract with the Ghanaian people and same must be adhered to. You must fulfill your promises to Ghanaians.

In this video, you are essentially saying that we should not expect you to go by your campaign promises.

You are saying that you cannot dismantle the agreement reached with the IMF and Ghana.

You are saying that the Akufo-Addo administration entered into an agreement with the IMF on the taxes introduced by the government and so, you cannot do what you said you’d do.

You promised to abolish E-Levy, betting tax, COVID-19 tax, emissions tax during the electioneering campaign.

Are you saying that you were oblivious of the taxes and levies being part of the fiscal consolidation and revenue mobilization under the IMF program?

It is not as though Akufo-Addo entered into this agreement with the IMF three months ago or a month ago for which reason you had no idea of the details to have informed you to enable you tailor same into your campaign promises.

You knew from day one what our agreement with the IMF entailed yet you went round promising to abolish these taxes.

You cannot tell us today, after you have ridden on the promise to cancel these taxes to win the elections, that you cannot abolish same. You must abolish the taxes. The people endorsed your candidature based on these promises so abide by them. You have no choice, Mr. President!
