In an effort to help put smiles on the faces of the less fortunate this Christmas and New Year festivities, a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) dedicated to Health, Education, and Restoration, has donated essential care items to mothers and children on admission at the Achimota Hospital and Amomorley Community Clinic Centre in the Greater Accra Region.

The event saw over 85 mothers of newly born babies and toddlers given bags containing essential care items like diapers, baby clothing, washing detergent, and toiletries.

Touching on the rationale behind the donation, the founder of the NGO, Mrs. Jessie-Emma Boaitey Ampratwum, noted that their main purpose is to help make life a bit more comfortable for women and children through their support. "It was all joyous seeing the mothers receive the packages with smiles on their faces", stated Mrs. Boaitey Ampratwum.

She added that, in order to better the lot of women and children, it has always been the desire of Kharis Haven is H.E.R Haven, to support women empowerment initiatives targeting their emotional, physical, and spiritual wellbeing to overcome challenges. She highlighted that the NGO also provides support for children of the less privileged.

Mrs. Boaitey Ampratwum stressed the need for the foundation to nurture resilience, emphasizing its ability to create independence among the women they serve. This can be achieved through workshops and educational programs, equipping mothers with the requisite knowledge and skills to make informed decisions about their health and well-being, creating a ripple effect that strengthens entire communities.

Referencing the NGO's activities thus far, Mrs. Boaitey Ampratwum noted that the organization has been offering life-changing support to some of the most vulnerable members of society for the past two years.

On the auspicious occasion of the donation exercise and assessing the successful journey of the NGO, she hailed her co-founder, Mr. Ransford Ampratwum, for his compassion and support that have brought the NGO to its present level of supporting the marginalized in society.

Mrs. Boaitey Ampratwum disclosed that the NGO, Kharis Haven is H.E.R Haven's mission is both ambitious and profoundly human, explaining, "it is poised to equip mothers with the tools and confidence they need to care for their families and motherhood. From skill-building workshops to safe lodging and education to enable them to overcome challenges they face in life", she emphasised.

The Female, Maternity, and Pediatric wards at Achimota Hospital were among the first to receive the foundation’s care packages. On her part, a Senior Paediatric Nurse, Lawrencia Aryee, expressed gratitude to the NGO for its timely intervention, highlighting how these donations alleviate the burdens on mothers who often struggle to meet their children's basic needs.

Her sentiments were echoed by the hospital administrator, Mr. Fredrick Ayivoore, who praised the foundation’s efforts while calling for sustained support from the larger community to address the ongoing challenges faced by vulnerable women and children.
