In a bid to achieving academic excellence, while also recognizing and celebrating committed staff accomplishments, the Ghana Communication Technology University (GCTU), formerly Ghana Telecom University has awarded Dr. Stephen Owusu Afriyie, as the "Best Lecturer for Teaching" for the 2022/23 academic year.

At the GCTU Great Hall a few months ago, the simple but impactful annual staff durbar was held to honour worthy staff whose accomplishments personally and collectively has positively impacted the University's image within the academic sphere.

Dr. Owusu Afriyie, a distinguished member of the Accounting, Banking and Finance Department of the Business School, received the "Best Lecturer for Teaching" to the admiration of his colleagues and staff.

This shows his steadfast commitment as an academic working in concert with other academics and instructors, to advancing the institution's corporate image. This emphasizes
his unflagging commitment and strive for excellence in his individual professional persuit as well as his sense of community and a common vision for academic growth.



A citation presented to him,read in part "The Council, Management and Staff express our profound gratitude to you for your exceptional commitment to academic excellence in terms of teaching, unwavering dedication in student success, and profound passion and abilities for teaching. We encourage you to keep it up to impact the University’s mission and core values of teaching excellence and human capital development. Thank you for your remarkable achievement”. The award was handed over to him by Pro-VC of the University, Prof. Robert Ebo Hinson.



Accepting the honour done him, Dr. Afriyie highligted his principles self-coined in an acronym PHD - Professionalism, Hard work and Dedication that has guided his carrier thus far. He underscored "I've always been guided by this coupled with my ethical ideologies compels me to be industrious in my pedagogical approaches", he stated. Further Dr. Afriyie assured the institution of his continuous application of comprehensive instructional methods that will help students become actively involved in the learning processes.

He adds, "for the university to appreciate my dedication to enhancing the teaching and learning environment by promoting students' academic development, is humbling". To appreciate this, Dr. Afriyie, promised to do more by improving upon his teaching prowess in the classroom and contribute to the academic community and students success.
