President John Dramani Mahama visited the Ashanti region's Adum-Kumasi, where a terrible fire that started early in the morning devastated a number of stores and residences.

The president took a detour to personally evaluate the situation while on a separate engagement in the Ashanti Region. The Ashanti Regional Minister, who had already visited the impacted region, greeted him.

Fire department authorities briefed the former president, explaining that the architecture of the market made it difficult to contain the fire and caused severe damage.

Mahama gave victims the reassurance that talks to coordinate relief operations were already in progress with the Chief of Staff and the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO). He emphasized that in order to help traders recover from their losses, both short-term and long-term support are required.

He warned the impacted traders and market operators not to use gas cylinders in the marketplace due to the potential for fire. He also promised that a thorough investigation into the fire will identify the best course of action, which would include reorganizing the market to stop similar tragedies in the future.

A number of stores located in two-story buildings in the busy business center were completely destroyed by the fire, which started early on Friday, March 21.
