The public has been reassured by Daniella Ntow-Sarpong, Chief Fire Officer (CFO) of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), that the fire breakout at Adum in the Ashanti Region's Central Business District has been effectively suppressed.
She stressed that the situation is still under control, so there is no reason to be alarmed.
She addressed worries that there wasn't enough water for the fire fighters sent to the scene, stating that because of the nature of the operation, firefighting necessitates a constant supply of water.
“The fire has been confined, and everything is fine. We just have to maintain it and ensure that it doesn’t spread again. Our firemen are here with their appliances, and I believe in them. They are going to work to ensure that the fire they have curtailed does not spread again. With our fire tenders, when the job is very intense, within a twinkle of an eye, the water finishes. So, we can never say the water is finished. Which soldier goes to war without a gun? It is impossible.
“The press should help us and encourage people to know that we don’t come to fire scenes when there is no water in the fire tenders. Who even said it is only water we use to quench fire? We have many things we use in quenching fires,” she stated.
