The first Ghanaian to win an Olympic medal, sports hero Clement Ike Quartey, is said to have died on November 2, 2024, in the United Kingdom.

Quartey passed away in London at the age of 86. He was the older brother of former welterweight champion Ike "Bazooka" Quartey.

Quartey became the first person from Ghana to win an Olympic medal when he won a silver medal in boxing at the 1960 Rome Olympics. Winning a gold medal at the British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Perth, Australia, in 1962 cemented his legacy even more.
