If the departing government does not act, President-elect John Dramani Mahama has promised to look into the recent election-related killings.
Tensions in various areas during the 2024 elections led to reports of at least three fatalities and numerous injuries.
Irchad Razaaly, the ambassador of the European Union to Ghana, paid Mahama a courtesy call during which he reiterated his dedication to upholding justice and transparency.
He also highlighted measures to improve diplomatic and commercial ties and underlined his administration's commitment to upholding Ghana's bilateral accords with the EU.
“I am happy about the smooth, successful election we had, unfortunately, there were a few incidents which led to death. I intend to investigate what led to the death. People are culpable, and they need to pay the price for what they have done.
“I hope this government investigates those incidents, but if they don't, we will do it when we come to office. We want to engage the EU as early as possible to look at the details of our cooperation and see how we can tweak it to match the programme that this government wants to undertake.”
“A lot of foreign investment that comes to our country comes from the EU, and we want to deepen that, especially in this economic crisis, in which we find ourselves, where we are shut down from the international capital market.
Irchad Razaaly also commended John Mahama for appointing the first female Vice President-elect.
"Congratulations to you and your running mate for being the first female to hold this position as a vice president, and we need to acknowledge this move, organization, and the conduct of the election.”
