Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the outgoing president, has promised his steadfast support for a smooth and orderly handover of power to President-elect John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The guarantee was given on Wednesday, December 11, at the Jubilee House in Accra, at the 2024 National Transition Team's inauguration.
Members of the departing and incoming governments gathered for the meeting, which marked a significant turning point in Ghana's democratic process and formally began the handover of power.
Speaking to the audience, President Akufo-Addo reiterated his commitment to making sure the next government has all the tools and assistance it needs to get started right away.
He stated his opinion that a smooth transition is a responsibility due to the Ghanaian people, not only a question of formality.
“I assure him of my full support and that of my government over the transitional process to make sure that his administration takes off in the best of conditions,” Akufo-Addo stated.
In addition, the departing president emphasized the value of continuity in governance and the necessity of cooperation between the two teams to guarantee a seamless transfer of duties.
Similar remarks were made by President-elect Mahama in his reply, who thanked President Akufo-Addo and the departing government for their dedication to a smooth transition.
The President-elect acknowledged the challenges facing the nation, including economic difficulties and security concerns, and pledged to work closely with the outgoing administration to address these issues effectively.
“Mr. President has given me a brief on the security situation, both internal and external, and also a short brief on issues having to do with the economy. The transitional teams will drill down further into these matters, and we are going to work together in the interest of Ghana to ensure a seamless transition.”
