88 people were detained on two Metro Mass Transit buses at Benchema, close to Asawinso, in the Western North Region on Tuesday, December 3, 2024. The Ghana Police Service is looking into the incident.

According to preliminary inquiries, a man known as Sammy allegedly recruited the persons from Adenta, Oyarifa, and Madina, among other places in the Greater Accra Region. According to reports, they were being transferred to certain constituencies in the Western North Region to offer security at polling places.

The suspects are helping with the investigation while they are in police custody. In the meantime, attempts are being made to track down and capture Sammy, the suspected recruiter, in order to assist with the current investigation.
