Dr. Rashid Pelpuo, the Minister-Designate for Labour, Jobs, and Employment, has suggested that Ghana's retirement age, which is presently fixed at 60, be reviewed in order to better suit the nation's workforce requirements and economic capability.
Dr. Pelpuo emphasized the significance of a national consensus in deciding any policy changes during his vetting before Parliament's Appointments Committee on January 30.
He emphasized that addressing the future of Ghana's workforce will require an inclusive conversation.
“There’s a lot of talk about increasing the retirement age—some suggest 65 years, others even 70 years. If they are still strong, why should they retire?” he said.
“However, this decision must result from a harmonious and collective agreement.”
