Former President John Mahama has publicly accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government of mismanaging the economy, leading to the collapse of local businesses, particularly the Produce Buying Company (PBC). Speaking at a campaign rally in Enchi Aowin on November 14, 2024, he highlighted that PBC, which once purchased 30% of Ghana's cocoa, can no longer sustain its operations.
Mahama expressed grave concern over the plight of PBC workers, many of whom have reportedly gone unpaid for 8 to 9 months. He criticized the government's failure to provide a clear payment schedule for overdue salaries, describing this neglect as a lack of responsibility towards the welfare of Ghanaian workers.
The former president argued that the struggles faced by PBC are indicative of wider economic challenges affecting many local businesses under the current administration. He attributed these issues to poor governance and mismanagement by the NPP government.
During his address, Mahama urged supporters to vote for change in the upcoming elections, emphasizing the need for a government that prioritizes local businesses and workers. He pledged that, if elected, his administration would focus on revitalizing Ghanaian companies and protecting their interests.
Mahama's remarks reflect ongoing concerns about economic management in Ghana and highlight the challenges faced by local enterprises. His call for change resonates with many voters who are seeking solutions to these pressing issues as the country approaches the elections.
