On November 20, 2024, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo officially appointed Herbert Krapa as the substantive Minister for Energy, effective November 19. This decision was communicated through a press statement from the Jubilee House, signed by Director of Communications, Eugene Arhin.
Prior to this appointment, Krapa served as Minister of State at the Ministry of Energy since July 2024. He has a solid background in energy management and policy, having also been the Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry.
President Akufo-Addo praised Krapa for his exceptional diligence and professionalism, asserting that his contributions have significantly advanced Ghana’s energy sector. The President expressed confidence in Krapa's ability to drive continued growth and transformation in this critical area.
This appointment follows the resignation of former Energy Minister Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, who is now the running mate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the upcoming elections. Krapa's leadership is expected to ensure stability and progress within the Ministry during this transitional period.
