PRESS RELEASE
For Immediate Release
26 November 2024.

THE VOTE BUYING SCHEMES OF THE NPP IN SOUTH TONGU MUST END NOW

The South Tongu Constituency NPP is engaged in diverse unbridled vote-buying schemes across the Constituency in the final weeks leading to the 2024 general elections. Indeed, vote buying is illegal and in simple terms constitutes bribery. It undermines the integrity of Ghana’s electoral process and has the tendency of giving political power to the highest bidder. This is not the democracy our forebears fought for. This is alien to our beloved Constituency.

In their current attempt to unduly influence the electorates, the NPP has resorted to collecting voters ID cards from unsuspecting voters in exchange for money and in some cases takes record of details on the voters ID while leaving the cards behind. The NPP in the constituency goes around collecting these cards from voters while promising them gifts, favours and job opportunities such as recruitment into the security services. Currently, a voter's ID card goes for GHc 200 – 300 while others who pledged to get more cards for them are rewarded with GHc 500.

As part of the modus operandi, on election day, prospective voters whose cards have been seized by the NPP will have their little fingers dipped in indelible ink without going to their polling stations; wrongly portraying that they have already cast their votes. They also intend to cause the deletion of names of these voters from the BVDs to be used on election day. This is electoral fraud. Importantly, we wish to remind the good people of South Tongu that even without their voter ID cards, they can and will still vote. Just walk to your polling station and mention your name and you will be allowed to vote. Importantly, please, do NOT give your voter ID card to anybody until you get to your polling station on election day.

For voters whose cards have been taken from you, we urge you to chase these irresponsible NPP members for your cards. The public is advised to report any form of vote buying to the police or local authorities or the NDC leadership in your locality for timely redress. We will not allow any unpatriotic citizen to tarnish the established identity of South Tongu as the citadel of democracy in Tongu. We will not hesitate to take any appropriate action(s) against these NPP individuals and groups involved in the vote-buying business in the Constituency.

Our dear brothers and sisters of South Tongu, on December 7th, we have the privilege of saying no to bribery and corruption, nepotism, crass ineptitude and super incompetence. We have that moment of our lifetime to rewrite the history of our dear country for the better. Let's remember to vote massively for H.E John Mahama as the next president of the Republic and Hon. Maxwell Lukutor as the next MP of this Constituency for well paying jobs through the 24 Hour Economy policy and other thought-through policies of the NDC.
Thank you.

Ele zu…… Ele za!
