According to myjoyonline, at least 16 people were killed in a sad accident that happened on Sunday, November 10, 2024, when a bus travelling along the Accra-Kumasi Highway went off the road. After allegedly attempting to avoid a pothole, the commuter-heavy bus lost control, swerved, collided with a tree, and then repeatedly rolled over.

Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, with passengers screaming for help as the bus overturned.

Many of the victims were trapped inside, while others were thrown from the vehicle due to the violent impact.

Emergency services rushed to the scene, but many of the passengers were declared dead on arrival, while others sustained severe injuries.

The accident scene, which was close to the town of Nkawkaw, a renowned accident hotspot on this section of the route, was quickly reached by the police and emergency crews. With debris all over the place and bodies lying lifeless on the road, the scene was described as horrifying.

The bus driver, who survived but suffered serious injuries, is being investigated by the authorities for potential negligence or technical malfunction.

The Bureau of Accident Investigation and the Highway Patrol of the Ghana Police Service have begun investigations to ascertain the precise cause of the collision.

Preliminary reports indicates that the bus was traveling at high speed, possibly due to the urgent schedule it was keeping, leading to the loss of control.

The deceased's bodies were taken to the Nkawkaw Government Hospital for post-mortem examination and identification. While some of the critically injured passengers were transported to the neighbouring Kwahu Tafo Municipal Hospital for treatment, others were also hurried to the same location.
