A level 100 university student has been placed under detention in jail custody by the Asante Akropong circuit court in the Atwima Nwabiagya North region for allegedly defiling a 13-year-old girl in Tanoso, Kwadaso Municipality.
A student at the Apenteng Appiah Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED), Raynus Ofori Mensah, entered a not guilty plea to the defilement accusation.
However, he disclosed to the court that he had spent the previous four months dating the victim.
On December 8, 2025, he will make another appearance before the court, which is presided over by Mrs. Gloria Mensah Bonsu.
Prosecuting Police Chief Inspector Ruth Gborson informed the court that the victim lived in Tanoso with her mother and twin brother, and that the accused was a level 100 student at the Apenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED).
According to her, the victim is a JHS two student at a school where the accused had taught, and the complainant, Ms. Joana Gifty Mensah, who is the victim's mother, is a trader.
According to the prosecution, on December 20 of this year, the complainant left the victim and her twin brother in charge of her shop while she travelled to the Kumasi Kejetia market to conduct business.
She claimed that the accused went to the store to purchase bread at around 1100 hours.
According to Chief Inspector Gborson, the accused went back to the store a short while later and instructed the victim to go get a glue gun from a buddy on the AAMUSTED campus and deliver it to his home. The victim complied.
The accused allegedly followed the victim, enticed her into his room, and forced her to have sex with him, causing her to bleed heavily and get lightheaded.
The accused used tissue to clean the blood and administered paracetamol, but the bleeding continued and she became unconscious as a result. The accused then hired a tricycle and drove her to a hospital in the nearby community of Apatrapa.
The prosecution informed the court that upon the complainant's return, she only encountered the twin brother at the store and enquired about the victim's whereabouts.
She was told that the accused sent her after visiting the store.
After obtaining the accused's phone number, the complainant called him to enquire.
The accused informed the complaint that he had brought the victim to a hospital after witnessing her bleeding on the AAMUSTED campus, according to the prosecution.
The victim was responding to treatment when the complainant arrived at the hospital in a hurry and saw the accused with blood in his sandals.
The offender was taken into custody after the complainant brought the incident to the attention of the Abuakwa police.
He acknowledged having sex with the victim in his cautionary statement, and following additional police investigation, he was charged and taken to court.
