Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the MP for North Tongu, has expressed concern about the "reckless and unpatriotic" actions of officials in the departing Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration.
He claims that intercepted communications show a spike in hurried payments and last-minute contract approvals before the government change on January 7, 2025.
The Agricultural Development Bank (ADB), whose board allegedly approved a controversial electronic servicing arrangement worth $750,000 (about GHS12 million) three days ago, was directly mentioned by Mr. Ablakwa in a Facebook post on December 26.
Since the agreement is still in draft form and negotiations with the vendor are still ongoing, the contract, which was given to Virtual Security Africa, has caused debate within the bank.
Despite the contract not going through conventional auditing procedures, the former Deputy Education Minister claims that ADB is under tremendous political pressure to complete full payment by December 27, 2024.
He said that the hurried procedure ignores due research and compromises accountability, writing, "Top ADB insiders are shocked at the Board's decision."
He pointed out that this development occurs in spite of the President-elect's Transition Team's explicit warning against making such impromptu financial promises, which was a similar position to the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) during the 2016 transition period.
Public authorities who give in to political pressure and approve these "dubious transactions" will suffer consequences under the next administration, the MP warned. "For the sake of God and nation." Ghana First," he said in closing.
Public outrage has been stoked by this disclosure, with many demanding prompt investigations and responsibility from the officials allegedly involved in the midnight deals.
