According to President Akufo-Addo, his administration has done a good job of managing national security.
Their joint efforts have guaranteed that “our country’s territorial integrity is intact,” the departing president said.
This was said by the President in Parliament on January 3, 2025, during his last State of the Nation Address (SONA).
The 1992 Constitution's Article 67 contains a mandate for the SONA.
Before stepping down, it gives the president a chance to give an update on the state of the country.
"Ghana remains the only country in the neighborhood to have not fallen victim to terrorism," the president stated in his address. The President praised the security managers, saying, "I want to give them a lot of credit for their efforts to keep the nation safe.
He was also dissatisfied that despite efforts to address it, the Bawku behavior persisted.
"The fact that the Bawku conflict has not been resolved despite our best efforts is a matter of great distress to me," he stated.
"I knew that fighting galamsey was not a universally popular thing," he said in reference to the galamsey issue. But I was willing to risk losing my presidency. Many parliamentary seats were lost as a result of the battle against Galamsey. My second term in office was affected by the numbers in parliament as a result of this.
