According to Asiedu Nketiah, the NDC's parliamentary leadership change was a calculated move ahead of the December elections.

Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the National Democratic Congress' (NDC) national chairman, has defended the party's choice to reorganise its parliamentary leadership, calling criticism baseless.

Muntaka Mubarak (Asawase MP), James Klutse Avedzi (Ketu North MP), and Haruna Iddrisu (Tamale South MP) were replaced earlier in the year by the NDC as Minority Chief Whip, Deputy Minority Leader, and Minority Leader, respectively.

Reactions to the rearrangement were mixed, with some people doubting its timeliness in light of the general election in 2024.

Asiedu Nketiah clarified that the modifications were a calculated step to increase the party's efficacy in Parliament while speaking at a campaign rally in Ajumako Enyan Essiam, Central Region, on Thursday, November 21. Asiedu Nketiah claimed that despite early criticism of the decision, the new leadership group had shown its value.

Comparing the change in leadership to a relay race, he emphasised that the previous leaders had fulfilled their responsibilities and that it was time for a new group to assume control.

Did you notice the subsequent criticisms after we made the modifications in Parliament? Everyone was making fun of me. However, we remained steadfast because we thought the new leaders had greater qualities.

Would you fire the newly appointed leaders that we brought in? They've shown you won't, therefore I know you won't. We give thanks to God for enlightening us.

It was a relay race, but the previous leaders did their share. An athlete passes the baton when he is exhausted. Thus, we gave Ato Forson the reins, and he did not let us down. We also don't regret it. He claimed to have improved the party's appeal.
