According to President Akufo-Addo, no nation has a flawless constitution.
Despite Ghana's 1992 Constitution's shortcomings, he argued, calls for its review should proceed cautiously.
"Mr. Speaker, one topic that keeps coming up in public discourse is the demand by some for a reexamination of the 1992 Constitution, which has governed our Fourth Republic for the last thirty-two (32) years. During his final State of the Nation Address (SONA) before Parliament on January 3, the departing President declared, "Mr. Speaker, there is no perfect Constitution anywhere in the world."
Despite all of its flaws, I believe that this Constitution has been a good tool for us. The longest run of continuous, stable, constitutional, and democratic government in our history has been made possible by it. The annoyances of the political process cannot be resolved by a constitution. According to President Akufo-Addo, "no constitution will satiate the wishes of those who do not believe in the democratic process."
"We should be guided by the old saying, festina lente," which is Latin for "hasten slowly," he proposed.
He revealed that the president-elect will get the Constitution Review Committee's recommendations.
As he gets ready to take on leadership duties, he stated, "I will be sending the document prepared and submitted to me by the Constitution Review Consultative Committee on proposals for the review of the Constitution, along with the concerns and suggestions raised, to the President-elect for his consideration."
