A petition to remove Chief Justice Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo was denied by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Professor Stephen Kwaku Asare filed the petition, which accused the Chief Justice of incompetence and misconduct.
President Akufo-Addo said in a statement released by the Presidency on January 6 that after consulting with the Council of State, it was determined that the petition did not establish a sufficient basis for additional action.
The statement further underlined that the petition did not contain the required documentation or supporting proof to back up the assertions made.
The Office of the President would like to notify the public that, following a careful and comprehensive examination of the petition to remove Chief Justice Justice Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo, the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, in consultation with the Council of State, has determined that there is no prima facie evidence in the petition that calls for additional action.
The President's Office issued a warning against efforts to weaken judicial independence by making what it called "baseless allegations."
It underlined how crucial it is to handle complaints in accordance with constitutional principles.
