A prominent figure in the New Patriotic Party, Andy Kwame Appiah Kubi, has partially blamed former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta for the party's crushing defeat in the December 7 elections.

According to the departing MP for Asante Akim North, Mr. Ofori-Atta became so powerful that NPP lawmakers were unable to contact him for help of any kind.

This was revealed by Mr. Appiah Kubi on TV3's Key Points on Saturday, December 14.

He claimed that former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta became overly arrogant. We wanted him out because he was more powerful than the president and vice president.

As you may remember, when the nation's economic problems worsened and ratings agencies downgraded the economy, Mr. Appiah Kubi and more than 90 of his fellow lawmakers demanded that Ken Ofori-Atta be fired. They argued that their constituents were expressing dissatisfaction with the exorbitant expense of living and pressing them to take action. President Akufo-Addo, for whatever reason, refused to back down.

Mr. Appiah Kubi went on to say that other ministers even disregarded MPs' calls to enquire about development initiatives for their communities. He said, "I scolded a few of them on our pages; some of the ministers were really conceited." Speaking on the same program, Ransford Gyampo, a professor at the University of Ghana, said that President Akufo-Addo had manipulated the current NPP officials.

He has therefore called for the removal of all the current executives.

"Allow me to urge the NPP's owners to save the party from Akufo-Addo and the party's whole executive.

We need a robust opposition to keep the administration on its toes, so they must prevent the party's impending collapse.

He stated on the Key Points on TV3 Saturday, December 14, that "the party risks disintegrating if people do not come together to take the party from the claws of Akufo-Addo and his remnants, kick all the executives of the NPP, and let the party restore its own tradition."
