After some members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) broke into the Electoral Commission's (EC) headquarters, chaos broke out in the Greater Accra region's Weija Gbawe constituency.

The irate fans are calling for the parliamentary results to be redeclared. In the recently concluded election, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, the candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), was formally proclaimed the MP-elect by the EC.

Felix Odartey Lamptey of the NDC received 30,460 votes, while Mr. Shaib received 32,608 votes. NDC supporters, however, are contesting the declaration's foundation and asserting that Jerry did not win on fair grounds.

Despite efforts by the police to keep things peaceful, the supporters could be heard yelling that they were fighting for their rights in a video posted on X by Accra-based ChannelOne TV.

They promised not to be intimidated.

Wilfred Ayitey Blankson, the Presiding Member of the Assembly, acknowledged the NDC's concerns and voiced fear about a potential escalation in an interview with Citi News. In order to maintain peace, Mr. Blankson urged the EC to immediately settle any complaints.
