Asamoah Gyan, the former general captain of the Black Stars, has apologized for joining the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as a member of the 2024 Manifesto Sub-Committee and acknowledged that he was only there to garner votes.

Gyan was appointed Chairman of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's 2024 Manifesto Team's Youth and Sports Subcommittee.

Prior to the elections, which the NPP lost, he was also seen at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) launching the Manifesto.

He said that at least some members of his class no longer respected him as a result of the relocation.

In an Instagram Live chat on Thursday, January 3, he started, "Even if NDC came for me, I know it's for the people."

"I believe that 1% is for the people, but the other 99% may be for politics." I was assisting the young people. I did a lot of things on my own without any help when I was by myself.

Therefore, it would have saved me money if I had a larger role, such as that of the government.

"I'll assist using government funds. I won't put it down because I use it to help even though it comes out of my own pocket.

That's the reason I chose to join the NPP. I was unaware that they were taking advantage of my popularity since the country was struggling and people were angry. They therefore wanted to take advantage of my popularity because I have a large following in Ghana, and all of my followers will naturally join this political party once I join it. From a strategic standpoint! And I was utilized in that way.

He claimed that by making this decision, he had lost the respect of several individuals and cursed those responsible.

"And God will not pardon anyone involved in that thing."

A few days after starting camp, some young players were "brainwashed" to avoid him, according to the former Liberty Professionals attacker, who also made fun of his stint with the Black Stars.

He described how these athletes would be all over him, phoning their families to speak with him, but would abruptly stop meeting him, even in the hotel hallways, after being exposed to unfavorable information about him.
