The nation's interests should take precedence above partisan politics, according to Speaker of the House Alban Bagbin.

The Speaker emphasized the significance of concentrating on Ghana's issues and making a concerted effort to resolve them while speaking at an orientation for the new MPs in Accra on Saturday, January 11, 2025.

"I want to implore you to be committed and diligent in your efforts to address the issues confronting our country. It is more important than the country or the [political] party. It's really important, and those of you who aren't paying attention, please do so," Bagbin said.

He highlighted the long-term benefits of putting Ghana first, noting that politicians who prioritise the nation’s interests tend to advance further in their careers.

"Those who are truly Ghanaian make more political progress than those who are fiercely partisan." Extreme partisanship can help you rise in one regime but fall in the next because you are perceived as aligning yourself with a certain personality who may be the leader, making you irrelevant after that leader, Bagbin continued.
