At the 2024 National Honours event, which took place in Accra on Monday, December 30, 2024, at the Accra International Conference Centre, President Akufo-Addo presented Ghana's highest honor, the "Order of the Star of Ghana – Officer Award," to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the country's outgoing vice president.
The president recognized Bawumia for being his vice president for the previous eight years, despite the fact that he lost the December 07 election to former president Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
At the occasion, Akufo-Addo also honored Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, Dr. Bawumia's running mate in the 2024 elections, who was named an Officer Awardee in the Order of the Volta for his public service.
Known as NAPO, Dr. Opoku Prempeh was among the numerous Ghanaians who received national honors on the day from a variety of fields, including the military, police, judiciary, education, public health, sports, culture, trade, and agriculture.
In order to recognize their exceptional service, diligence, sacrifices, and contributions to the advancement of the country, the president gave out the honors.
Leading the list of state ministers and other government figures honored at the 2024 Presidential Honors for Distinguished Service and the 2024 National Honors and Awards was Dr. Bawumia.
Dignitaries such as the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Chief Justice, Gertrude Torkornoo, Ministers of State, and other prominent individuals and government representatives attended the ceremony.
