After a disagreement over the choice of a new principal for the school, a delegation from Yaa Naa Mahama Abukari, the Overlord of Dagbon, has ordered the closure of St. Vincent College of Education's offices.
A successor is required because the college's previous principal recently retired. Although the school's board chose a different candidate, Yaa Naa Mahama Abukari nominated one for the role. Alhassan Abdul Fataw, the Registrar of the Dagbon Traditional Council, responded by ordering the college's management and employees to lock the offices and leave the area until further notice.
Fataw argued that the board’s decision to disregard the Overlord’s recommendation was a sign of disrespect, which he said warranted the closure of the college’s offices.
No Dagomba principal has ever been appointed to the college since its founding, according to observations. The King of Dagbon was never made aware of the vacancy by the school board.
Only after learning that they were interviewing applicants to choose a principal for the school did the King learn of it. Accordingly, the King extended an invitation to the board, which included the chairman.
The King requested that the candidates work to dispel the myth that the local indigenous population is opposed to the school board and administration. After the board decided to leave the palace, we learned that the new principal was not from the monarchy.
Because of this, the young people of Yendi banded together and declared that they must shut it down as soon as they have defied the King's order in order for us to resolve the matter amicably.
