Calls for their heads have been denied by the Deputy Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), who is in charge of Corporate Affairs. She claims that these demands are the result of a lack of knowledge about how the Commission has been operating since 2020.
Dr. Bossman Asare defended the EC's performance, highlighting its dedication to cost-effectiveness, efficiency, and transparency in overseeing Ghana's election procedures.
In a recent speech, Dr. Asare praised the EC's performance and claimed that it had operated in accordance with the ideals of free and fair elections.
He emphasized that the Commission's actions had received support from both domestic and foreign observers.
This nation has laws, and our work has been examined by many observers since the Commission took over in 2018. The results are available to the public, and Ghana has some of the greatest election management in Africa, he said.
Dr. Asare criticized people who support the dismissal of EC officials, claiming that they are unaware of the Commission's tremendous advancements.
"The EC has been transparent, cost-efficient, and has made substantial contributions to the nation," he said, highlighting the organization's accomplishments. Proposals to fire officials show a lack of comprehension of the Commission's work.
Despite a few small issues, the 2020 elections were widely praised internationally, the Deputy Chairperson added.
He admitted that although there were some challenges during the 2024 elections, everything went smoothly overall.
Dr. Asare reaffirmed that the EC's rulings were in accordance with the constitution, especially those pertaining to the supervision and recollection of findings.
Dr. Asare emphasized that opposing the EC's decisions is an affront to constitutional norms while addressing the problems surrounding the recall of parliamentary results in constituencies like Ahafo Ano North, Techiman South, and others.
He reiterated that the Commission is still committed to carrying out its mandate to hold credible elections and urged the public and stakeholders to have a thorough knowledge of its work.
