The appointment of Davis Ansah Opoku, also known as "OPK," as the Chief Whip or one of the Deputy Whips in the upcoming Parliament has been strongly supported by Carlos Ahenkorah, the Member of Parliament for Tema West.
He made the request in an interview with Kwame Nkrumah Tikese on Okay FM in Accra, asking the National Executive Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the Eastern Region to give Mr. Opoku, the MP for Mpraeso, consideration for the important leadership position.
Mr. Ahenkorah highlighted OPK's special combination of leadership traits, characterizing him as a results-driven leader with outstanding organizational abilities and the capacity to bring people together across political differences.
OPK is popular on both sides of the House. His capacity to establish rapport and promote collaboration is a unique quality, particularly during these highly volatile times. "He possesses the charm and self-control to unite our caucus while successfully opposing the NDC," he said.
In addition, the Tema West MP emphasized OPK's bold and calculated approach to politics, calling him a man who "gets things done."
He claims that the Mpraeso MP is the best person to lead the NPP caucus in Parliament because of his capacity to manage difficult circumstances and produce outcomes.
His reputation is further strengthened by the fact that Davis Opoku is currently the Public Accounts Committee's Deputy Ranking Member.
Within the NPP and throughout the political spectrum, he is respected for his commitment to accountability, openness, and making sure public resources are used wisely.
He has distinguished himself as a leader in Parliament with his ability to appeal to both parties and his work on practical supervision.
As the NPP moves into opposition, Mr. Ahenkorah emphasized the necessity of having vibrant, cohesive, and goal-oriented leaders like OPK to guide the caucus.
Discussions within the party over the necessity of strong leadership in Parliament have been further heightened by the push to promote OPK, and the National Executive Committee is anticipated to discuss these appointments in the days ahead.
