Members of the incoming 9th Parliament have been advised by Clerk of Parliament Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror to prioritize their legislative responsibilities and serve their people' interests over partisan agendas.
On the eve of the presidential inauguration, the 9th Parliament will be sworn in after the 8th Parliament is dissolved on Monday, January 6.
In a Citi News interview, Mr. Djietror underlined that after taking office, MPs must make a commitment to attending to the interests and worries of their constituents, making sure that their work in the legislature matches the goals of the people they represent.
He urged the new MPs to carry out their responsibilities with honesty and commitment, reminding them of the crucial role Parliament plays in determining the course of the country.
"Elect members of parliament must educate themselves on their responsibilities. Parliamentarians are not there to further the interests of their parties or to support party positions.
A manifesto is the foundation upon which political parties ascend to power. Policies that will advance the interests and growth of the country are supposed to be included in the manifesto.
