Dr. Said Deraz, Group Chairman of Euroget De-Invest S.A., has expressed grave reservations regarding President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo's January 4, 2025, commissioning of the 250-bed Ashanti Regional Hospital in Sewua.
The business characterized the incident as a breach of contractual commitments in a press release dated January 5, 2025, emphasizing that the facility is still unfinished and has not yet been formally turned over to the government.
According to Dr. Deraz, important tasks are still undone and Euroget De-Invest S.A. has not been paid in full for the project. These include finishing up power plants, setting up necessary medical equipment, fixing broken buildings and landscaping, and finishing staff housing. He underlined that until all contractual obligations are met, Euroget De-Invest S.A. will still own the facility.
Dr. Deraz claims that neither permission for the event nor consultation with the corporation for the commissioning were given. He referred to the commissioning as a breach of their agreement and an act of disrespect for legal procedures, noting that no Euroget official was present. "This is a contract violation. Deraz said, "We haven't turned over, and every effort should be made to recover damages against all prior commissioning."
He described the decision as politically driven and questioned why an unfinished hospital was put into operation just days before the current administration leaves office.
The statement also highlighted the dangers of commissioning an incomplete facility, emphasizing that doing so compromises the project's integrity and creates an unsettling precedent for future government contracts.
In order for the project to be finished, he also urged the government to uphold the terms of the contract, guarantee due process, and settle any lingering problems.
The business requested the appropriate authorities to look into the situation and reassured the public that it was committed to providing the hospital with the best standards possible. Dr. Deraz also reaffirmed the company's willingness to take legal action if needed to defend its rights and recover damages for contract violations.
