Daniel Kwaku Botwe, the departing Member of Parliament (MP) for Okere, has been recognized as Akuapem's "Nkosuohene" (Development Chief).
The honor is a testament to the dedication and moral character he has shown to the people of Akuapem throughout his political career, especially as the Okere MP.
At the yearly Odwira durbar of the Akuapem Nifa division at Adukrom, he was given the title by the chiefs and residents of the Akuapem Traditional Area.
Speaking on behalf of Oseadeyo Kwasi Akuffo, the Okuapehene, Osuodumgya Otutu Ababio, Akuapem Nifahene, and Chief of Adukrom said: "Your dedication and selfless service to Ghana has impressed the entire Akuapem community."
When he retires from Parliament in January 2025, he stated, the Akuapem Traditional Area would be able to benefit from his extensive background in politics, selfless service, development, and mobilization.
After 16 years of excellent leadership to the people of Okere, Mr. Botwe, a former General-Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Minister of State, leaves Parliament.
From his time as a student at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology to his position as the chief scribe of the NPP, he is considered the Generalissimo of Ghanaian politics.
He has gained the affection of the people over his 16 years as Okere's MP, as evidenced by the noteworthy development and his humility in dealing with the chiefs and the populace.
When he successfully led the Ministry of Regional Reorganization and Development to establish the additional six new regions during the first term of the NPP government, his reputation for political integrity was further enhanced.
Mr. Botwe, who was taken aback by the development, expressed gratitude to the chiefs and populace for their honor, support, and collaboration.
"I remain your MP for the next 10 days," he declared, adding that he would formally say goodbye to the populace at the following Akwasidae.
He promised the populace that he would do everything in his power to promote Daniel Nana Addo-Kenneth, the Okere MP-elect, and the advancement of Okere and Akuapem as a whole.
Oseadeyo Kwasi Akuffo, the Okuapehene, Otubuor Djan Kwasi, Akuapem Adontenhene, and the Chief of Aburi, together with other divisional chiefs and Mr. BDK Adu, the former MP for the region, attended the ceremony.
