At Kwame Addo Kufuor Jr.'s burial, Movement of Change leader Alan Kyerematen allegedly disrespected former President John Agyekum Kufuor by introducing himself to those sat next to him without shaking his hand, according to a widely shared viral video on social media.
A brief video shows Alan Kyerematen welcoming a chief sitting close to former President John Agyekum Kufuor at the funeral of Kwame Addo Kufuor Jr. at the St. Cyprian's Anglican Church in Kumasi on Thursday, December 19, 2024, was posted on a number of social media platforms, including X (previously Twitter).
The videos' descriptions, which allude to political tension or contempt, give the impression that Kyerematen purposefully ignored Kufuor.
Over 30,000 people viewed a viral post by user KOJO DYNAMIC (@AnnanPerry) with the caption, "Alan Kojo Kyerematen swerve Kuffuor."
Nana Otabil (@NanaOtabil12), another account, shared: "Alan K nso. At his nephew's funeral, you meet the man, say hello to everyone, and then walk away? President Kufuor as a whole? Ah!
Gabriel Okyere (@yourMPgabbi), an X user, also added: "Times and Seasons." The remarks imply that Alan is offended and has the right to treat Kufuor disrespectfully. With these internet X-things, I can only picture Akufo Addo from 2009 doing the same to Kufuor. Nkoaaa ne nokwarefo, Nana Nyame.
Widespread rumors of political animosity between Kyerematen and the former president were stoked by the claims. DUBAWA made the decision to look deeper as a result.
After looking into the claim, DUBAWA concluded that the viral video was deceptive. The web video only shows Alan Kyerematen welcoming the Apagyahene; it leaves out earlier footage of Kyerematen welcoming former President Kufuor.
The context of Alan Kyerematen's earlier greeting of former President Kufuor, when the Apagyahene was not yet seated, is revealed in a longer video that Graphic Online has posted.
As shown in the widely shared video, Kyerematen did not shake Kufuor's hand again at this time because he stood up to greet the Apagyahene when he later joined the group.
Claims that Alan Kyerematen acted pettily or purposefully ignored Kufuor are refuted by this explanation.
It is untrue to say that Alan Kyerematen ignored former President Kufuor during a memorial service. According to the full footage of the ceremony, Kyerematen first welcomed Kufuor before going back to greet the Apagyahene. To mislead the public, the incident has been taken out of context.
