The New Patriotic Party's (NPP) Patrick Yaw Boamah has been proclaimed the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) nominee for the Greater Accra area's Okaikwei Central seat by the Electoral Commission (EC).
Abdulai Abu Baba Saddiq received 19,368 votes, while Patrick Yaw Boamah received 21,099 votes to win the seat.
This announcement comes after a High Court decision on Saturday, January 4, that approved the NPP's suit to force the EC to finish compiling the constituency's parliamentary results.
The case's judge, Justice Forson Agyapong, decided in favor of the NPP and issued an order of mandamus compelling the EC to finish the collation process.
According to Justice Agyapong's ruling, the EC had violated its duties by neglecting to compile the results from 31 polling places that were still open in the constituency.
The EC was then directed by the court to compile the results from the remaining polling places and add them to the previously compiled numbers.
The ultimate announcement of Patrick Yaw Boamah as the victor was made possible by this ruling.
With just two days remaining before parliament swears in newly elected MPs, Okaikwei Central is one of four constituencies still up for grabs between the two major parties.
Regarding the other three constituencies—Ablekuma North, Techhiman South, and Tema Central—the NPP had decisions in their favor.
The EC started the collation today after the verdict, supposedly to finish and publish the results before to the inauguration of new Members of Parliament.
In the meantime, notice of appeal against the High Court's decision has been sent to all four constituencies by the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
