Faustina Elikplim Akurugu, the parliamentary candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has been confirmed by the Electoral Commission (EC) as the MP-elect for the Dome-Kwabenya seat.

Following weeks of disagreement over the results of the December 7 election, the formal announcement was made on Tuesday, December 31, 2024.

She received 50,967 votes, just a few more than Mike Oquaye Jr., the candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who received 50,669 votes.

The EC Chairperson, Jean Mensa, stated in a brief statement prior to the announcement that the Commission will uphold the outcome, which represents the choice of the people of Dome-Kwabenya.

She emphasized that political parties must permit the system to function and pointed out that there are lessons to be learned from the election.
