In the Bono East Region, the Techiman Central Market was engulfed in a huge fire that destroyed many of the businesses, leaving traders and locals upset.
Witnesses stated that because of the market's close-knit collection of stores and combustible products, the fire, which began on the evening of Sunday, January 12, spread quickly.
Emergency services, led by personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), worked to bring the fire under control and prevented it from spreading to adjacent areas.
GNFS Public Relations Department Divisional Officer I (DOI) Alex King Nartey verified the occurrence on his Facebook page by sharing a video of the consuming fire.
This tragic incident adds to a growing pattern of market fires in Ghana in recent weeks, raising alarm among traders and authorities.
On January 2, 2025, just eleven days prior, a huge fire destroyed Accra's Kantamanto Market, which is regarded as one of the biggest marketplaces for used apparel worldwide. Thousands of traders were left economically stranded and suffered significant financial losses as a result of the fire that destroyed hundreds of stalls.
