According to President Nana Akufo-Addo, since the programs' beginning, 5.7 million young Ghanaians have benefited from free technical and vocational education and training (TVET) and senior high school (SHS).
He characterized the measures as revolutionary for Ghanaian education in his 2024 State of the Nation Address.
According to the president, without these programs, many of these youngsters would not have been able to attend secondary school.
In an effort to improve technical and vocational education, 62 current TVET institutions have been renovated to give students 21st-century skills, while 34 new ones have been created.
Despite suggestions for a phased rollout, Akufo-Addo reflected on the audacious choice to introduce Free SHS during his first term.
The first group of people who received Free SHS started taking the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in 2020.
With 65% of applicants receiving marks between A1 and C6 in all four core areas, he emphasized a notable improvement in performance over prior years.
Despite obstacles like the COVID-19 pandemic, he credited the program with achieving the best exam scores in Ghana's history.
The president claims that these accomplishments are evidence of the effective use of TVET and Free SHS, which continue to offer educational opportunities and raise academic standards across the country.
