With effect from January 1, 2025, Ghana is now the fifth African nation to allow African passport holders to travel without a visa.

During his last State of the Nation Address, outgoing President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo unveiled this historic policy, which supports the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and the African Union's Agenda 2063. Its goal is to further continental integration.

"I am proud to have approved visa-free travel to Ghana for all African passport holders, with effect from the beginning of this year," President Akufo-Addo said during his speech. The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and the operations of the world's largest trading bloc make this the natural next step. The AU's Agenda 2063, which calls for an integrated and connected Africa by 2063, cannot be realized without all of these components.

Ghana, Rwanda, Seychelles, The Gambia, and Benin are positioned under the new policy as part of a proactive group of African countries that promote easy travel within the continent.

It is anticipated that this project will increase investment, trade, and tourism while enhancing Ghana's standing as a pioneer in fostering African solidarity and collaboration.

This action demonstrates Ghana's dedication to advancing Africa's political and economic integration, as the AfCFTA Secretariat is based in Accra.

In addition to giving African tourists more freedom of movement, the visa-free policy strengthens Ghana's strategic position in the continent's push for more connectivity and cooperation.
