Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), has praised the presidential contenders, political parties, and their followers for their behaviour since the start of the electoral process.

He claims that because of this behaviour, the election process is now less tense and has seen little to no violence, making it one of the most peaceful in Ghanaian history.

Dr. Dampare appreciated that the efforts of the presidential candidates, their followers, and the entire Ghanaian population had greatly eased the job of the Police Service during his remarks at the signing of the 2024 peace treaty on Thursday, November 28.

He urged the presidential candidates to continue keeping their commitment to sustaining peace for a successful electoral process, but stressed that the most crucial task—the main election on December 7—remains to be done.

Dr. Dampare reiterated the Police Service's commitment to carrying out its constitutional duty to maintain law and order, security, and peace during the election campaign and beyond. "With this pledge, we would like to assure you that we will not be the cause of any disruptions that could taint the tranquilly we so greatly value," he stated.

Additionally, he urged all parties involved to fulfil their responsibilities and to refrain from becoming or allowing themselves to be the cause of any acts that could jeopardise national harmony. Dr. Dampare emphasised that the Police Service's promise to uphold peace is a conscious and intentional commitment rather than merely empty rhetoric.
