Jeremie Frimpong, a wing-back for Bayer Leverkusen, revealed that he was contacted by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) about playing for the Black Stars but decided to play for the Dutch national team instead.
In their attempt to bolster the West African team, the GFA targeted a number of players, including the former defender for Manchester City and Celtic.
Frimpong disclosed, however, that Holland's early confidence in him had a role in his choice to turn down Ghana's approach.
The 23-year-old defender stated in an interview with 3Sports, "I thought about playing for Ghana and the Ghana Football Association (GFA) did get in touch with me, but Holland was always the first to come and they were the country that believed in me."
Frimpong, who is of Ghanaian descent, has played for the Netherlands ten times.
The defender is presently enjoying the Christmas holidays in Ghana, despite his decision to play for Holland.
