Former Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) Rector Professor Stephen Adei has voiced serious concerns over President-elect John Dramani Mahama's possible removal of the Chief Justice.

Professor Adei claims that such a move would create a risky precedent that would affect Ghana's judiciary and political stability in the long run.

In an interview with TV3 on Sunday, December 23, 2024, Professor Adei emphasized the need to protect the judiciary's independence from political meddling.

He maintained that the court is an essential component of democracy and that changing its leadership for political ends could damage the institution's reputation.

Professor Adei said, "If Mr. Mahama were to remove the Chief Justice, it would be disastrous." "This kind of action will strengthen a very negative trend that is not good for this nation's future. We must fight the urge to politicize all facets of government, particularly the legal system.

He also emphasized the necessity for political leaders to put institutional integrity ahead of partisanship. Professor Adei urged all parties involved to make sure that judicial nominations and dismissals are informed by the constitution and the rules of justice, cautioning that any departure could have serious repercussions for Ghana's democratic progress.
